Innovation Bites - Environmental Product Declarations
PrefabNZ, the heart of innovative construction, are over-the-moon to offer an engaging series of bite-sized webinars to benefit you and your enterprise -- wherever you are.
Topic Leader: Jeff Vickers with manufacturer representative Julie Wagener from Fletchers.
Topic: EPD - Environmental Product Declarations
An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is the documented proof of a product’s environmental credentials. EPDs are accurate, independently verified and recognised by the New Zealand Green Building Council. Interest in EPDs is growing rapidly, with over 50 EPDs already published in Australasia and over 5000 globally.
Jeff Vickers, Technical Director at thinkstep in Australasia, will explain in simple terms what an EPD is, what information it includes, how it can contribute to achieve a Green Star rating, and how you can use it to design better buildings. Jeff will use examples of New Zealand products that have an EPD to demonstrate how the information can be applied.
Julie Wagener, Sustainability Manager at Fletcher Building, will provide an industry perspective and Fletcher’s motivation for producing EPDs.
Understand how EPDs can provide data for environmentally conscious building design. Hear from a manufacturer about the drivers and value of EPDs. Learn how to get an EPD project off the ground.
Jeff is Technical Director at thinkstep. thinkstep enables organisations to succeed sustainably. Jeff has applied Life Cycle Assessment for over a decade to everything from a single brick to the entire built environment of New Zealand and was involved in half of the 50 EPDs published so far in Australasia. He works with companies such as Fletcher Building, Downer, New Zealand Steel and Lendlease. He has a PhD focused on sustainable product design.
Julie has been working for Fletcher Building (FB) for four years, most recently as FB Sustainability Manager. She has established a centralised sustainability team, and is supporting the development of Fletcher Building’s new sustainability strategy. Part of the work she has been doing is building an internal sustainability team to drive sustainability outcomes, including EPD’s, in each of the individual Fletcher Building businesses.
